Baton of Hope
On Monday 22nd September, the Baton of Hope travelled through Medway, Maidstone and Canterbury, before arriving at Dreamland Margate for an inspiring evening of hope.
The Baton of Hope is a powerful national campaign which began its first tour of England in 2023. This year, it visited 20 areas across the UK, with Kent proud to be one of its stops. The campaign’s aim is simple yet vital: to raise awareness of suicide prevention support and encourage open conversations about mental health struggles.
As it crossed Kent, more than 130 people carried the baton, each representing strength, hope and the message that support is always available.
NHS Kent and Medway Talking Therapies were proud to be part of this important day. Members of our Community Engagement and Employment Advice Team joined the baton at key points in Sheppey, Maidstone, Rochester, Canterbury and finally Margate.
It was quite a logistical challenge to have our teams present at so many events in one day – but it was absolutely worth the effort. Being there gave us the chance to show our support for suicide prevention, while also making sure that individuals, community groups and other organisations know who we are, what we do, and how people can access our service.
At NHS Kent and Medway Talking Therapies, we believe that conversations about mental health can save lives. By being part of the Baton of Hope, we were reminded of the importance of coming together as a community – to listen, to talk, and to remind each other that no one has to struggle alone.
If you or someone you know is struggling with their mental health, Talking Therapies can help. You can find out more and self refer yourself via our website.
