Supported Online Therapy

There are times when we all need help to deal with life’s challenges. Whether you’re under pressure at work, struggling with financial issues or dealing with family troubles, stress and worry can quickly become overwhelming. And the more stressed you feel, the less able you are to solve the problems you’re facing.

The good news is that learning how to manage your wellbeing will make it easier to cope with stressful situations. By building your resilience you can regain a feeling of balance in your life and start to take back control.

What is Supported Online Therapy?

Supported Online Therapy is a digital treatment option that helps people develop skills to manage common mental health difficulties such as anxiety, low mood and panic.

The programmes are delivered through a secure online platform and focus on practical techniques that you can apply to everyday life. Alongside the online content, you’ll receive professional support to help you stay on track.

The programmes are completely free, and they have already helped over 1 million people to feel better – most patients showed improvements in just three months. And don’t worry, if you’re on the waiting list for in-person therapy, signing up for a supported online therapy programme does not mean that you’ll lose your place.

How does it work?

Once you have completed a self referral to NHS Talking Therapies, you will have a short assessment with a PWP (Psychological Wellbeing Practitioner) to determine the best treatment for you. If a PWP feels you are suitable for free online therapy, they will send you a direct link which you can then use to create your account free of charge.

After you’ve signed up, you’ll be assigned a supporter who will check in with you each week. They will help you to set goals and apply the support to your life.

Supported online therapy programmes are easy to use, confidential, and can be accessed anywhere via a smartphone, tablet or computer.

Each module comes with its own tools and coping mechanisms, tailored to your individual mental health goals.

Please note that supported online therapy is not suitable for everyone.

Is this the right option for me?

Supported online therapy may be suitable if you:

  • are experiencing mild to moderate mental health difficulties
  • want support that is flexible and easy to access
  • prefer working independently, with guidance available
  • have access to the internet via a phone, tablet or computer

Many people enjoy this option because it allows them to engage with therapy around work, family and other commitments.

What courses are available?

The three main courses we offer are:

Space from Anxiety

This programme is about understanding how thoughts, feelings and behaviours are connected, increasing awareness of anxious thoughts, and learning practical tools to help manage anxiety day to day.

Space from Depression

This programme is about recognising patterns in thoughts and behaviours linked to depression, and developing tools to help improve your wellbeing.

Space from Panic

This programme is about understanding panic attacks, recognising triggers and physical symptoms, and learning practical techniques to reduce panic and feel more in control.

What support will I receive?

While using the programme, you’ll have contact with a Psychological Wellbeing Practitioner (PWP) who will:

  • help you get started
  • review your progress at agreed points
  • provide feedback and encouragement
  • respond to messages during scheduled review times

The PWP’s role is to support your use of the programme and to help you make sense of the content.
